After graduating with a BA in Fine Art in 1987 at Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY, then a quick stint in the broadcasting department at the Hill Holliday Ad agency in Boston, Hannah attended the Ives Gammell Atelier on Newbury St in Boston, MA, where she was taught drawing and painting in the tradition of the historical Boston School. The Boston School was an influential group of American master painters from the turn of the 19th century who were inspired by the European Impressionists way of seeing color, while maintaining a more classical style of drawing in their paintings. It was at the Gammell atelier that Hannah met her artist husband, Sam Vokey (www.samvokey.com ).
After leaving the Gammell atelier, Hannah continued her art studies at the Paul Ingbretson Atelier in Framingham, MA , (now located in Lowell, MA ) where she focused on still lifes and portraiture. (www.http://studio.ingbretson.com).
Occasionally, Hannah merges her passion and love for painting with the surfing side of her life to create some less traditional style “fantasy surf spots” paintings or “surfer commissions”. Those can be viewed under the Surf Art section.
